Both auricular diagnostics and auricular therapy use the ear’s auricle for the diagnosis and treatment, respectively, of various diseases affecting the entire body. Auricular acupuncture can be an independent acupuncture treatment or combined with body acupuncture.

One of the first to attempt to interpret this method was Dr. Paul Nogier, a member of the Medical Research Group in Lyon, who created a map of the human body using somatotopic representation on the ear.

According to this mapping, the human body is reflexively represented in the form of an inverted fetus (with the head corresponding to the lobe area). Approximately 100 distinct auricular points have been identified and are used in auricular diagnostics and therapy, which can be stimulated to influence various systems in the body.

In medical auricular acupuncture, the selection of ear areas where the needles are placed is directly related to the vascularization and innervation of the area.

In recent years, auricular acupuncture has become one of the most widespread microsystems, it has international recognition, is taught in many countries, and is recognized by the World Health Organization as a therapeutic system with a wide range of applications, good results, safety, and ease of application.
